We welcome submissions from UC Berkeley students and faculty of any academic background whose research aligns with the overall mission of Berkeley Anthropology.

Guidelines
- You may submit original research projects, commentary (Op-Ed) of existing research, relevant personal stories/experiences, ideas for future research, research abstracts for senior or graduate theses, transcribed interviews, etc. Acceptable submissions can take many forms, so we encourage everyone interested to submit.
- We only accept submissions in the form of Google Doc, .docx, and PDF.
- We ask that the work be limited to 500 words of double-spaced, 12pt sized font. If the submission exceeds this, please contact us.
- Images must be in JPG or PNG format. Video embedding can be done through a Youtube link the submitter is responsible for providing. In compliance with UC Berkeley’s Digital Accessibility Policy, all media must have a descriptive caption. The submitter is responsible for providing these captions.
- If citations are use, they must be in APA, MLA, or Chicago format; and included in a “Work cited” or Bibliography at the end of the submission.
- All submissions must adhere to UC Berkeley’s Standards of Academic Integrity and UC Berkeley’s Standards of Community Engagement. We reserve the right to reject/remove any submissions that violate these standards. This includes, but is not limited to-
- Properly citing all referenced and quoted material. This includes text, images, and videos.
- Generative AI (ChatGPT) was not used.
- All co-authors and collaborators are properly attributed.
- Sensitive topics are approached respectfully, relevantly, and without malice.
- Due to potential conflicts with UC Berkeley’s Standards of Academic Integrity, you may not submit identical copies of essays or research projects from previous courses taken at UC Berkeley. However, you may submit abstracts and derivative work produced from them. Please contact us if you have questions on how to comply with this policy.
- In compliance with UC Regents Item J2, we cannot host any political statements, discussion, or calls-to-action on our campus-affiliated website. We understand this policy may be restrictive if your research involves political topics. If so, please contact us and we will work with you to comply with this policy.
- The Anthropology department of UC Berkeley reserves the right to reject/remove any submission at any time for any reason.
The submission process
- Use the provided Google form or email the following to handprintberkeley@gmail.com with “Submission” as the subject.
- The article attached as a Google doc, .docx, or PDF. If your work extensively uses images and other visual aids, Google Doc is preferred.
- Basic information about your research:
- The project title you’d like us to use.
- The date of completion.
- Information about the authors. (At least one of the authors must have a formal affiliation with UC Berkeley.)
- Their names, majors/title, and their affiliation with UC Berkeley.
- A short bio about them (100 words max).
- (Optional) Email contact information.
- (Optional) A clear photograph of them to be displayed at the end of the article
- A brief background of the submission and why it is important to you.
- A thumbnail image to be displayed alongside the title. This can be a picture or artwork that encapsulates your research, a chart or graph you created, etc. Please include a proper citation if using outside images.
- Once received, a team of readers which includes members of our team and UC Berkeley Anthropology faculty/staff will begin to review your submission. Review can take up to two weeks depending on the backlog of submissions pending review.
- If approved, we will respond to your email. We will ask you to agree -over email- to our terms and standards. Such as compliance with the UC Berkeley’s academic integrity policy and media release consent. (Basic formalities).
- With approval and processing complete, we will post your submission as soon as possible. Unless you have instructed us to withhold the piece for publication on a specific date.
