Barbre Callister is a writer & a UC Berkeley student whose work explores the interconnection between land, memory, and renewal. Rooted in a deep respect for the natural world, her writing reflects the cycles of growth, loss, and transformation that bind all living things. In her poem I stand with you, she honors the shared breath between humans and nature, a quiet meditation on surrender, regeneration, and belonging to the earth.

I stand with you

inhaled in rhythm,

our breath a quiet promise

carried in the cradle of time.

You bow, old stem,

not in defeat,

but in sacred surrender

to let your seeds fly free. Once, I too bore fruit.

Now I bend with memory, softened by seasons,

made whole by the letting go. Carbon, dust, and light — we will become

their breaths again.

Remember me

as I remember you.
